Ottawa Creative Thinkers Group

On December 16th the OCTG held an event where Ken Provost did a talk on a Problem Solving Tool-box and I did a talk on the Design Methodology I used to design the Squirrel. We did the meeting at the Delta Hotel in the gcTraining facilities.

First Ken the host did a walkthrough of his Took-Box. The group gave lots of ideas and feedback.

Second I gave a review of the model airplane design problem, my design methodology and the Squirrel. I showed some of the actual prototypes. The group was very enthusiastic about my methodology.

Later in the evening we had a couple glasses of wine and reflected on the two presentations.

Atomic Rooster Ottawa Community Workshop

I have been doing some really fun activities in public venues such as the Atomic Rooster Pub in Ottawa.

Below are some pictures from the very first one at Atomic Rooster Pub. As you can see from the photos my software friends were very supportive of my new occupation. 🙂

Ottawa DemoCamp 12, Clock Tower Pub, Ottawa

I had the pleasure of speaking at Ottawa DemoCamp 12 at the Clock Tower Pub in Ottawa. I had 15 minutes including intro, demo and question period. It was a total blast!

I explained why I had made a new design and talked briefly about the design process that I used. Because I used a software design and problem solving process, I got a different outcome than other model airplane designers.

Everybody loved the talk.

I launched five of them into the audience which went incredibly well given the low ceilings of the Clock Tower Pub basement where DemoCamps are regularly held.

Many people came up to me after and said that they found it inspiring to hear the design process and see it fly. Robert Janelle told me that if they had something like the Squirrel in the classroom he’d have likely taken an interest in science and math.
