Don’t make one model, make a fleet!

In my volunteer activities we often make fleets of Squirrel planes. It’s an awesome communal and social experience. Not just the building but the flying is very socially active.

Here is the fleet I helped make at a senior residence in Ottawa. I like to get by once every week or two to do maintenance.

As you can see I’m fixing a winglet on one of them. As time goes on I suspect staff and residents will do more and more of the maintenance.

Camera

I was just looking at the picture in the last post from Dinkar (school teacher in India).

He really needs a camera.

I purchased one  in USA and had it shipped directly to India. I paid some extra shipping so I hope it gets there quickly.

I got a good deal on one thanks to thecamerabox (ebay).

Nikon chargers work on 240V so the only challenge will be the plug-in style. An adapter may be needed. I am assuming it has a North America 110/120V plug in chord.

Update August 12, 2012:

The tracking number EC692778339US can be checked here at USPS. I had to try a couple of times.

Dinkar sent me an interesting article on customs offices in India. It looks to me like the customs officials provide bad service by holding items indefinitely. This is probably very bad for their economy and I wonder if it creates an opportunity to solicite bribes.

I just did a search on corruption and found it is a know issue in India. An article in BBC. A web site against bribing. I bet the other camera I sent is sitting around in their offices too.

It will be interesting to see what happens when the latest camera arrives.

Here are two overflowing bankers box full of Squirrel and other parts. They are designated for community work!

If you’re in or near my travel circles please contact me if you’d like to meet up and make some planes!

If you’re a beginner we’ll make Squirrels. If you’re more advanced we can make modified Squirrels or try some new designs.

I’ve got a nice venue for meeting in the Ottawa area since it has an adjoined parking lot for flying.

I’m looking for more venues and more people to make planes with for fun.

Montreal Makerfaire Application Rejected for Squirrel model airplane

Looks like the Montreal Makerfaire isn’t on for Squirrel and the new design projects.

Very disappointed to not be able to present at a Makerfaire in a city that is right next door.

We are Mini Mini! and will not be able to house a market so we
are focusing on exchanging ideas and not dollars.

Squirrel and the new design projects are going to three Makerfaires in the next short while. I will present the Squirrel to the other makers as well as the general public. If you are in either of these cities it’s a chance to see the Squirrel.
