Here’s Hector’s Squirrel from Bogota, Columbia.
I found that it was more fun to make Squirrels at the pub with these display stands.
You can see that the owners of these Squirrels look much cooler.
These are made from a thin piece of bamboo, a small block with a hole drilled in it and a little cube of sponge. You split the sponge so it forms a clamp and glue it to the end of the bamboo. I usually push the bamboo into the sponge so it glues better.
We had a great time last night. I want to do this more often.
I’ve not uploaded the video yet but there are a few pictures below. I found a box of really old Squirrels so did some quick repair and managed to get two Squirrels ready.
In my volunteer activities we often make fleets of Squirrel planes. It’s an awesome communal and social experience. Not just the building but the flying is very socially active.
Here is the fleet I helped make at a senior residence in Ottawa. I like to get by once every week or two to do maintenance.
As you can see I’m fixing a winglet on one of them. As time goes on I suspect staff and residents will do more and more of the maintenance.
If you’re in Ottawa or near by, get in touch if you have a group you’d like to make these with!
