Ever drill 600 holes precisely? Here’s a peak at an experiment of using a dremel for cutting out parts precicely.
First I made a fixture for holding the balsa wood. It’s basically a wide and flat clamp. You clamp the clamp to a work surface and then you are able to keep changing the balsa wood to repeat the same parts. I drilled 600 holes in it so it was completely adjustable.
This was used for prototyping before the laser cutter.
I think this is a great system for a hobby modeler as it allows you to make parts precisely and it’s not very expensive to set up.
The Denny Dart is designed by Neil Dennis (aka Wombat). It’s a stick and tissue design that has landing gear for ROG (Rise Off Ground).
I’ve been donating Squirrels and he followed suit and sent some to Dinkar in India who has been sharing model planes with his students as well as his friends. So Neil followed suit and sent some of his Darts.
If you want one of these let me know as I am now carrying them.
I met up with Lloyd Shales the other day. What a great meeting.
I’ll be sharing the ideas we shared over the next few days.
Lloyd shared an amazing idea with me. He’s been using adhesive tape to attach wings on Squirrels.
This:
Removes the wing seat strip (6 x 1/4 x 1/16″).
Removes the wing seat step.
Is very stable.
Keeps it’s adjustment better when the plane bounces off buildings.
I’m going to take a closer look at this for the Dayton project! Dayton is a new design I’ve been working on for some time. The plan was to release it before winter. It may be out sooner!
