Lovely Walk in the Park
This weekend I went for a nice walk in the park. Just for fun. I grabbed a Squirrel and off I went.
This particular Squirrel was made by Lloyd Shales (master builder) a couple of years ago. Â His planes seem to last forever since he preshrinks the tissue (I think).
This summer I’m hoping to get in some nice picnics and visits to the park. All you need is a nice calm day.

Foam Squirrels
I made up this batch of Foam Squirrels for a group of kids in Montreal. They’re not available for purchase yet but will be some day. They are awesome flyers and are very easy to make.
Squirrel Cutting Jig
If you make lots of Squirrels you can use a jig like Caley Hand of California.
The Squirrel was actually designed so that many of the parts are the same size. In fact there are only four different sizes of parts. 2, 4, 6 and 12 inches. Further they all work evenly into standard lengths of balsa.
Squirrel used in University Aeronautics
Universidade Federal de Uberlândia is a university in Brazil that teaches aeronautics. They actually build a Squirrel model plane as part of their final exam!
Here are some of the course materials that are used in their classrooms. They’re in Portuguese. Perhaps someone will translate them someday. 🙂
