Another nice Squirrel from Hector in Columbia!
I can see that he has discovered the “Alternate Wing” design I that was in the original Squirrel plans of 2005.
I just came across this Squirrel in the flickr channel Ben Watts.
I recognize that table to be that of the Atomic Rooster Pub. š
As you can see in these pictures, I am working on lots of experiments!
This includes magnets, wire cutting, foam, cedar, 3D printing and much more!
The magnets are in a stack of 75 of them at .8g. They areĀ 2mm x 0.4mm.Ā That comes to .01g each so I can use a few of them on one airplane and it will not impact the weight. They may be a good way of having a removable tail plane or fin.
The pile of foam is for experiments with a hot wire cutter I’m working on. I want to use foam for making Walk-Along-Gliders as well as foam parts for rubber-power planes.
The cedar is an experiment to try to incorporate some local materials into a model plane.
The 3d printer will be used for propeller prototypes as well as the possibility of other plastic parts. I eventually want to figure out how to recycle pop bottles to make parts.
I found that it was more fun to make Squirrels at the pub with these display stands.
You can see that the owners of these Squirrels look much cooler.
These are made from a thin piece of bamboo, a small block with a hole drilled in it and a little cube of sponge. You split the sponge so it forms a clamp and glue it to the end of the bamboo. I usually push the bamboo into the sponge so it glues better.
